Antique Quilts For Sale at IQF from Humble Quilts

I never tire of seeing antique quilts! These were all for sale at the International Quilt Festival in Houston.  Enjoy the eye candy!

The dogtooth edge  is appliqued.

This one is a tad more humble. Super charming!

Mourning prints. I can't say I've seen many of these purple gray combinations.

I think these were about 1".

Love seeing the backs with lovely prints.

Love the border/nine patch!

This little one is the only one I could afford! The 3 little borders have been added at a later date than the center and stars. I love it! And ...

Little Quilt and Baskets from Humble Quilts

Here's Janny's little quilt made from my "new old quilt" You can see it HERE. Each version is so adorable!

When I did my Bounty of Baskets workshop last month one of the ladies (I am so sorry I cannot remember who brought them) shared her string baskets from a class she took in Sisters.

Because one of my workshops is Bounty of Baskets and one is String Quilts Your Way I was inspired to make a string basket!!

I hope I can spice it up a little a liberated style border. It falls a little flat for ...

Antique Quilt Blocks & More from Humble Quilts

My heart is so full of gratitude! Thank you sweet friend for these amazing blocks!

I've got some good close ups of these amazing fabrics. I'd say they are right around 1880-1910.

The claret "snowflakes' are one of my favorite prints!

I think they are ocean waves blocks to be set like this. (I'm not entirely positive and I haven't investigated that yet)

Do I see champagne glasses and bubbles????

All hand sewn.

On another note I had an outing with girlfriends.

I snapped this photo at 1AM when the moon was close to full.
Then ...

Antique Pineapple Quilt Blocks from Humble Quilts

Look at these amazing foundation pieced pineapple blocks a sweet friend sent to me!
Funny how I didn't notice one block is different- only after I took a photo did it stand out!
It is also the only one with that light blue fabric.

The darker portion is toward the corners.

Love that pink print!

The next blocks seems to have a wide time span of fabrics.
The butterscotch, chrome yellow and poison green are a bit later then the shirtings. (I'm not an expert, so feel free to weigh in!)

Love! Love! Turkey red, yellow and green ...

New old Quilt Revisited with Sizes from Humble Quilts

Many of you asked for sizes so you can make this little charmer.

When asking for sizes of orphan blocks there is a reason they were left out of a quilt! lol

The upper left block measures 6.5"x7" across.

The upper right measures 6.5" x7" also.

The lower left measures 7"x7"
The lower left measures 6 3/4"x 7" across.

I guess I would suggest making them all 6" or 7" finished.

I'd love to see yours if you make one!

The lower border finishes at 1 1/2"

The entire quilt with binding ...

New Old Little Quilt from Humble Quilts

Here's a little 4 block quilt that I cannot even remember where I purchased it. I thought it would be a fun little one to finish into a small quilt.
I showed you close ups of the sweet fabric in an earlier post.

The one side has the goofy border. Goofy, charming in a humble kind of way!

I was able to use the flour sack I shared the other day. It was perfect! No batting.

This was in my "antique or vintage" fabric drawer. Someone gave it to me and I'm sorry I do not recall who ...

Antique Block Challenge Revisited from Humble Quilts

The center block is an antique. Marsha in Idaho put 2 tops together with similar antique blocks.
I  adore everything about it! I LOVE that blue rope looking fabric in the upper right section of the block.

I made a trade- fabric for this top. Gotta love bartering!

Here is Marsha with her completed top!

If you have completed your antique block challenge and haven't shown me, I'd love to see yours!

I can't wait to get my top basted and start quilting on it!

I am almost done hand quilting our 2023 Quiltalong! It is different ...

Billie's Guild Box from Humble Quilts

I stayed in a lovely home with a wonderful host named Billie. She shared a box of vintage and antique blocks, bits and pieces that were donated to the guild. A knowledgeable woman took the box, documented all the blocks and presented a trunk show to the guild. They are going to donate the box of goods back to the woman so can use them for future teaching opportunities.
Here is peak into the cool textiles!

YES to red and cheddar!

Uhhh a little humble.

Love that black print!

Not even a close substitution on this one! lol

This looks ...

Monthly Sampler from Humble Quilts

My sampler arrived from Two Thimbles! WOW! Love these "Repro Reds" by Cheryl  Johnson.

I've continued to take the old quilt apart and love seeing the blocks up close and personal!

I love that tiniest little zigzag print!

Some of you have received blocks from this quilt top that has seen better days.
I think the maker would be thrilled to know we are honoring her humble quilt and using the fabric she chose to put in this quilt top. I know I'm thrilled with these blocks! I hope you are too!

I mentioned adventures last Friday; Wow ...

Circular Designs in Quilts from Humble Quilts

I've always admired circular designs in quilts.

I admire them even when they aren't very circular!! I believe this quilt I saw at the High Desert Museum years ago.

This is a block from a quilt my friend Claire purchased in Sisters.

This is a close up of a quilt owned by Mary Koval displayed at the Houston show.  That black flower center looks very similar to my hand applique.

This is a block from a quilt owned by Linda, Quilts in The Barn, from Australia. I got a sneak peak in a Houston hotel room before her ...

Old Maid's Puzzle Blocks from Humble Quilts

I have 36 of these amazing blocks! Only a couple were crispy. I washed them gently in the sink with orvis and laid them flat to dry. They were pretty much the same as before washing. I ironed them and put them on the design wall. It was so great to admire each one up close and personal.
I took a photo of the more unusual or fun prints.  This brown almost looks like decorator fabric.

Windmills.... lol

That is a seam in the center square not a fold like it looks like at first glance.

LOVE!!!

There was a ...

Friday Frolic! from Humble Quilts

A friend sent me a box of precious blocks! These are just a handful of terrific fabric with madder. All of the blocks are pretty crispy. Any thoughts about washing? Or just piece them together as is? I didn't iron them but they look pretty accurate despite my photo!

I'm continuing lectures that had to be rescheduled from last year.

It isn't as good as real life, but it is so nice that it is possible to stay connected to quilters!

This is what we call false spring. Just a tease. The hill we were climbing was ...

This and That on A Friday from Humble Quilts

This and that on my design wall. I'm prepping some options for the string quilt class. I think the settings are endless!
I finished my antique block quilt challenge! Whoop! Whoop! It is small, but everything else is unusual for me.  We will share our challenge quilt on November 25th. I'm looking forward to seeing them!
A bit of Instagram this week.
And Elsa making herself comfy when nobody was looking!! She's looking at me like, "Oh Hi! What did you turn the light on for?" LOL

And so I had this crazy thought that Tuesday would ...

Antique Block Challenge from Humble Quilts

Last year at the Houston Quilt show I challenged a few blog readers to an antique block challenge.

It was this: The antique blocks are an optional challenge- make a quilt with it, cut it up, undo the seams, keep it whole, make a little quilt, big quilt, potholder, label, etc........ And you have a year to complete it.

Well, this is my reminder if you wanted to play that a year is closing in! The deadline will be American Thanksgiving, November 26th.

Connie, Jan, Sandy, me, Ann, Kevin and Tea and their blocks.

And- Christopher, Cecile, Janet. (Christopher was ...
